NAGCARLAN, LAGUNA PART II: Bunga Falls, St. Bartholomew Church

As we only stayed less than an hour in the Underground Cemetery, thankfully I have an itinerary in my mind. First stop was the famed St. Bartholomew Church, which was the church location years ago of a telenovela  entitled Kampanerang Kuba starring Anne Curtis.

BUNGA FALLS
This is a popular local tourist destination and was highly recommended by other bloggers as I was searching the net for things to do and visit in Nagcarlan. We hired a tricycle (Php 30/person, vice versa) in front of the church. The trip took around 15-20min each way on the National Road, and another 10-15min on the road (part concrete and part rough road) leading to the falls. You need to tell the driver to wait for you because transportation in that part was scarce. Before reaching the falls, you will have to trek 5-10min down.

The falls is also known as the Twin Falls, because basically it's two falls almost identical  cascading side by side, from a height of 600 meters.

Some say that there is a sensation of something pulling you down when jumping or swimming down the falls. They say this may be explained by the sudden plunge of the catchbasin into a deep pool, as it is 10 meters deep. Also, the current here is somewhat strong. So for your own safety, just don't try to test your skills in swimming here.

Downstream current

Safe or not, I will not venture in swimming in here. Looking around the riverbank, I could see garbage lying around, bought maybe by local visitors. Spilled spaghetti, 2 sets of baby diapers full of whatever, and on the other side of the bank, two cottages were left in disarray (of course with garbage as decoration). On the river, caught in branches were also garbage (some may be from upstream). It's a pity that such hidden treasures are being degraded by the locals, when they could generate income and jobs from this. The tricycle driver said that come summertime, there is an entrance fee of Php30 (for maintenance of the place). But I don't know. It's really such a shame to waste this one ^_^.
