SANDBAR RESORT: Back to basics

My sister was home and she wanted to go to the beach. It was (un)timely because the father of our cousin's wife E recently passed away and the wake and burial will be at Concepcion, Iloilo. And because the said place is home to some of the popular islands of Northern Iloilo, we headed to Sandbar Resort in Bolobadiangan Island to stay overnight and have a chance to attend the burial scheduled the next day.

PLAYA DE PARAISO: Another Paradise within Paradise

The heavens have connived: schedule and weather permitted us to have a taste of paradise on Ghost Month (that is August, where there will always be rain and typhoon lurking around the corner). And so one hot hot afternoon, we head to Buenavista, Guimaras and traveled to Playa de Paraiso.

SOUTHERN ILOILO CHURCHES: MIAG-AO CHURCH

The province of Iloilo in Western Visayas has always been a part of Philippine history, one way or another. The Spanish conquistador Miguel Lopez de Legaspi even moved his headquarters from Cebu to Oton, Iloilo. Thus as the leading province during this period Iloilo is widely known for its old-world architecture especially the grand Spanish colonial churches, which can be seen in almost all towns of the province.

Alubihod, Guimaras : Weekend Getaway

The island of Guimaras is most famous for its sweet mangoes and of course, its unspoiled white sand beaches and breathtaking islets. For a weekend respite me and my friends chose one of the famous beach destinations, which is Alubihod. This small stretch of beach paradise is located in Nueva Valencia, a 30-45 minute travel from Jordan Wharf, and we decided to stay at Raymen’s.

There are three resorts open for accommodation, the other two namely Alubihod Cove and Rico Beach Resort. But Raymen’s has been popular way back for its affordable prices and acceptable accommodations.

Mama's Kitchen

Aside from flowers, firecrackers, and seafood, Arevalo in Iloilo City is also the proud hometown of the Arevalo Sinamay House, which is an ancestral house dating back to the Spanish period. This also happens to be the home of Mama's Kitchen  - a name which is popular on its own way.

JARO ILOILO: A RELIGIOUS HERITAGE

Jaro is one of the six districts of Iloilo City, and the most popular of them. With its role in the religious and economic history of the city, Jaro, with the well known Jaro Cathedral and its Belfry, has remained a strong symbol of religious and cultural heritage for the Ilonggos up to the present times.

TATOY'S MANOKAN ILOILO

Tatoy's Manokan and Seafood along Villa beach  in Villa, Iloilo City has been an institution to both locals and visitors alike. With its signature native litson manok (native roasted chicken) and a wide array of selections of fresh seafood and other native dishes, patrons have been coming for either a Sunday family day, or to celebrate milestones with delicious food.
