PALAWAN: THE LAST FRONTIER part 3

Day 5

Before we head back to Manila, we got two hours left to explore Puerto Princessa. For lunch we tried Chaolong, a Vietnamese rice noodle soup. This is one of the legacy left by the Vietnamese refugees who sought asylum here in late 1970's. The soup comes in various "flavors": beef stew, chicken, and pork. Our guide said to try buto-buto or the pork, and when paired with french beard is a most satisfying meal. And you could choose to add bean sprouts and/or mint leaves. For me, it's almost like eating batchoy or bulalo, but with a much sweeter taste

.

For another souvenir hoarding, we rode a tricycle going to Baker's Hill, where you could find baked goods to fill (again) your stomach. Their bestsellers are the hopia: ube, monggo, and pork. But i think the hopia being sold in wet markets some places are more tastier, so for pasalubong's sake you could bring home some (anyway it's cheap, around Php 40-45/box with 8-10 pcs of hopia).

And for those who couldn't live without coffee shops, the best place is Itoy's, located along Rizal Avenue. They make coffee blends which could rival that of Starbuck's. :)

There's still so much to do and see in Palawan, but our time is limited. Someday I hope I will get to see Coron. 'Til next time, Palawan!
